When the world went into lockdown in 2020, education faced one of its toughest tests. Schools closed, and learning shifted online, but for millions of children, especially in underserved communities, this shift widened the gap between the privileged and the vulnerable. Many lacked access to digital tools, internet connectivity, or even electricity, effectively cutting them off from learning.
Consequently, Development Edge launched the Bridge the Gap Campaign to shine a light on this growing inequality. In partnership with Sacefi Ghana, Education and Sustainability Volunteers Initiative, The Society for the Improvement of Rural People and the Young African Network for Global Goals (YANGG), we led a bold call to action, urging national and global leaders to recognize and address the digital divide in education.
Through storytelling youth mobilization, the campaign amplified the voices of those left behind, reminding the world that education must be inclusive, no matter the circumstance.
The campaign inspired conversations on the need for equitable access to digital learning and contributed to broader efforts toward ensuring that no learner is left behind, during the pandemic and beyond.
